The Sun Sets On The 156. After many years of being stored in Beech Grove, Indiana due to accident damage, the scrapping of AMTK 156 (P42DC) has commenced. While being overhauled, it was re-painted in the Amtrak "bloody nose" Phase I paint scheme as a heritage unit for the railroad's 40th Anniversary. It made the rounds from coast to coast both on special trains and regular revenue runs for several years, allowing a new generation to see the first colors used across the National Rail Passenger Carrier's fleet as a standard design. During this sunset pic in Rouses Point, New York on December 3, 2017, the locomotive was leading Capital Region Toys For Tots train, which had just finished its second day of giving out food, toys and clothes across the region. It was later replaced by painting AMTK 161 in Phase I in 2021, though this unit has the 50th Anniversary logo.
