The 7.65-kilometre-long, meter-gauge line from Altstätten Stadt to Gais via Stoss with several rack sections (Strub system) with a maximum gradient of 16 % was built in 1911 by the Altstätten-Gais Railway, was later part of the SGA (St.Gallen-Gais-Appenzell-Altstätten Railway) and has belonged to Appenzeller Bahnen since 2006. The trains, consisting of a BDeh 4/4 cogwheel railcar and an ABt driving trailer, run every hour. Train 3145 on the S24 line from Gais to Altstätten Stadt is running down the mountain between Kreuzstrasse and Warmesberg stops, with ABt # 121 driving trailer, BDeh 4/4 # 16 railcar and X # 1001 bicycle transport carriage.
