Remarks & Notes
EMD SD40-2s, decades ago the standard power on Union Pacific's hot freights, are now the usual set of power for assembling trains at UP's West Colton Yard. This typical 3-unit set consists of SD40-2 1797 (ex-UP 3310, née-UP 8040), SD40N Y3202(ex-UP SD40-2 3244, ex-UP 8004, née-UP 3244) and Y3200 (ex-UP SD40-2 3238). And to think we used to be bored with these on so many trains! (Colton, California – February 16, 2025) Burlington Northern Santa Fe's New York to Los Angeles intermodal train, Q-NYCLAC6-12A; very often has at least one Norfolk Southern diesel on it. On this day, it had two – NS ET44AC 3631 and AC44C6M 4705 (ex-NS Dash 9-44CW 9489) – the sole power on this day’s train, seen passing through Esperanza, a location on the BNSF's San Bernardino Sub. (Yorba Linda, California – February 16, 2025)
