The "Zito Yellow" was first introduced on the CNW 5500s in 1981. Due to the poor paint in Pantone 102C yellow, a lot of units faded or changed colors. The first two orders of C40s came in, Zito, but due to the baking sun in the PRB, the units had to be repainted by 1991. 42 units were repainted by MAC in Kansas City. That ended the Zito era, and Stagecoach Yellow went on for the final few orders in the CNW days. All the SD50/SD60 came in Zito. Only a few got repainted before the merger. It was hard to get them in three-unit sets, at least for me. Here, a trio leaves Clinton with an APL stacker bound for Chicago.
Scanned negative from May 1993.
