Southern Pacific GP40P-2 3197, resplendent in its Bicentennial colors (the second of three SP units so painted), rushes weary commuters home as it heads from San Francisco to San Jose on August 28, 1975. There were only three EMD GP40P-2 locomotives ever built (in November 1974), all for the SP for Commute service on the San Francisco Peninsula. To see this engine as it appeared in 2001, click HERE.
