Amtrak 92 detours via Greensboro. This is actually the trailing unit (put in place so the train can head north from Greensboro without having to turn the whole thing). You can see the lead engine in the distance. It's also very rare for sleeping cars to travel the ex-Southern between Greensboro and Durham. The previous time was in 2007 when the Auto Train took a similar detour. All this thanks to a CSX derailment in Richmond early in the morning which fouled things up big time.

Three north-south routes cross the Carolinas. Auto Train runs through here, too. Also, the State of North Carolina sponsors the Piedmont service and supports the Carolinian.
