Iconic West Virginia. The 1989 version of the New River Train (Huntington, WV to Hinton, WV) rolls down “Main Street” in Thurmond . I would have loved to have seen this town in its heyday. Checkout that green neon sign up on the top of the building, may have been a movie prop. This same scene was recently used by Jay Leno as a backdrop as he spoofed on the West Virginia Democratic Primary (without a train and probably a still from the 1987 movie Matewan which was filmed in Thurmond ). The power for the 1989 train was CSX FP7 #118 and CSX F7B #119. CSX #118 started life in 1952 as Clinchfield #200 and is currently West Virginia Central (Western Maryland) #67.
