Back in April 2006, Amtrak tested the viability of operating commuter service on the KCS between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, LA. While the idea had been discussed for decades, interest was renewed due to the large population shifts out of New Orleans from hurricane Katrina, which had only occurred eight months earlier.
