The double track leaving Mechanicville was one of many great photo spots to catch the Adirondack heading north to Canada. The D&H rebuilt the PAs to power their passenger service into the 80s. When all elements were in place, i.e., light, composition, and subject matter, the big ALCOs were very impressive. To fallow an Alco PA trail click here.
The Adirondack follows both the Hudson and the Lake Champlain shoreline on its leisurely trip between New York and Montreal. When it started, it was pulled by beautiful ALCO PAs purchased by Delaware & Hudson second-hand from the Santa Fe.
