Switching at 11,000 feet. The C&S local on the Climax branch from Leadville switches the molybdenum mine at Climax. As noted in an earlier post this was the last standard gauge Class 1 steam operation in the U.S. At the time it was also the highest elevation reached by a standard gauge adhesion railroad in the U.S., although in years past both the DRGW and Colorado Midland reached similar elevations. |
