Photographed on Kodachrome 25 slide film a few minutes after sunrise, BNSF 4716 (one of the last new red and silver painted warbonnets) exits Abo Canyon, approaching the CTC powered switches at Scholle, New Mexico. At this point in time, double trackage extended from Scholle east to Mountainaire with an extension beyond that point already under construction. The pristine desert scenery at this location has been altered dramatically since the BNSF Railway began double tracking the right of way through the twisty confines of Abo Canyon.
