Remarks & Notes
On sunny and hot evening in Salt Lake City, UP's daily North Platte to West Colton freight knocks down the signals at CP C783, Grant Tower. Visible to the right of the 7880's pilot is the actual Grant Tower building (two story flat roof), now fenced off and painted to match structures in the Gateway Mall. This formerly manned tower was closed down in the fall of 1985 when control was transferred to the D&RGW Console 5 dispatcher at Park Central in downtown Denver, CO. During it's heyday, the tower operator controlled movements by the Union Pacific (both Oregon Short Line & Los Angeles & Salt Lake), the Salt Lake Garfield & Western, the Denver & Rio Grande Western, and the Western Pacific Railroad.
