Remarks & Notes |
It's Friday afternoon on a spectacular summer evening at about 1945 as the southbound Denali Star sweeps around a gentle two degree curve as it gets ready to accelerate back to 60 MPH for the last lap into Anchorage after a 12 hr all day journey from Fairbanks. This is the ARR's flagship passenger train accommodation each direction during the summer months. The train is only 13 miles from it's destination at the downtown historic depot, but you wouldn't know it by the wild and spectacular country still to be found outside the passengers’ windows. This location is deep within the Ft. Richardson military reservation, and the ARR's Eagle River Bridge is just to the left out of sight with the rear of the train still passing over it. |
