Remarks & Notes |
It's just another typical day in Whittier - meaning it's foggy and wet. This isolated little community some 70 rail miles from Anchorage is the ARR's gateway to the outside world through it's barge dock and rail slip where barges arrive with railcars from the rest of the North American network. This view is at the north end of the yard as two classic black Geeps dating from 1975 perform some switching chores. It may be the first of July, but the snow is still low down on the hillsides here hard by the shore Prince William Sound. Note: the photographer is a railroad employee with permission to be on the property and was wearing all required PPE while taking this photograph. |
