The most significant remaining aftermath of a sideswipe derailment lays like a beached whale on the sands of the Puget Sound, while a Coast Guard cutter patrols the area and a work train begins laying down fresh gravel. The derailment involved the southbound EVEROO on Main 2 (inland) and the northbound LYDVBT. The northbound train suffered the most damage with 9 cars on the ground, 3 of which were tank cars loaded with sodium hydroxide. One of the tankers leaked a small quantity of the lye, 25-50 gallons. Here an NRC crew is pumping the contents of the 3 cars to a tanker truck. Derailment occurred Saturday 2/26, main 2 was open by Sunday afternoon.
