Remarks & Notes |
CNW 8552,8550 lead 150 empties past the Dumper Shed in Escanaba heading back to Empire Mine to reload. The C40-8's assigned to Escanaba, units 8550-8553 were equipped with Locotrol II and returned from the mine with 1 unit up front and 1 unit on the rear of loaded trains. Lack of business and added reliability had allowed four C40's to replace 8-9 SD60's/SD40-2's in this service. Years before Escanaba had been home to CNW's FM H16-66 fleet and then the C628's. Normally where 20-25 units once called home you now could pass by and often see only one or two units. |
