"I'd like my steak rare please." Rare mileage adorned the route of Pacific Railroad Society's 75th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee. This weekend trip ran from LA to Bakersfield over the rarest of all SoCal mileage: the Colton-Palmdale Cutoff. Built in 1966-1967 by SP, this line never saw a revenue passenger train. The only other special passenger move (to my knowledge) that traversed this line was 4449 in 1989. Also, Amtrak is celebrating it's 40th anniversary as evidence by AMTK 156 in Phase 1 retro paint, leading the special pass the famous mormon rocks & Sullivan's Curve- perhaps the most photogenic locale on this mountain crossing.
