Remarks & Notes |
Garratt 14A 512 of the Victoria Falls Steam Train Company is crossing the 128 metres high bridge over Zambezi river just below the mighty falls with a typical mixed freight/passenger charter for Geoff's Trains/Tanago. The 2-6-2+2-6-2 Garratt, built in 1953 by Beyer Peacock for the Rhodesian Railways, is just on the border (green sign) between Zimbabwe (right) and Zambia (left). The 198 metres long single span steel arch was constructed in 1904/1905 by the Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Company in Darlington UK and was then the highest railway bridge in the world. |
