A 16 year old Norfolk Southern General Electric C40-9 engine parks below the Roanoke Star a.n.a. the Mill Mountain Star. This star’s is the world’s largest freestanding illuminated man-made star that was constructed in 1949 on the top of Mill Mountain in Roanoke, VA. After construction was completed, Roanoke was also referred to as Star City of the South. November 2011. |
