The Union Pacific runs its LDP45 local a couple of times a week. This is the well known “dirt train” local out of the yard at Helper, Utah. Normally the train runs east on the Green River Sub to the small yard at Wash, a couple of miles east of the town of Wellington, Utah. They usually spend an hour or so switching out cars at Wash and then depart east for about 5 miles or so to Mounds, Utah. They make a left turn at Mounds and enter the Sunnyside sub and travel up hill to their destination at the East Carbon Development Corp’s large hazardous waste landfill operation. Their inbound cargo is normally contaminated soil, hence the name dirt train. Today's train was a monster; 98 cars and is pictured eastbound between Wash and Mounds.
