The CNW lines in western SD were powered by a large group of GP35's for quite a few years. Near the end of the 35's reign I shot this westbound departing Rapid City. Power was 861, 862, 4531, 852, 4535 with 101 cars. Notice the large string of 40 foot blue Consolidated Paper boxcars just behind the power. They were normally set out at Piedmont or Whitewood for loading with woodchips bound for the paper mills at Wisconsin Rapids.
