Working the Southern Pacific yard at City of Industry, California, on March 2, 1975, are a pair of early Espee SDs: SD9 3960 and SD7 1430. SD9 3960 is wearing its second roadnumber (originally SP 5487) and paint scheme (it was delivered in "Black Widow"), while SD7 1430 is on its third roadnumber (built as SP 5323, and later renumbered to 2730) and third paint job (delivered in "Tiger Stripe" and later repainted into "Black Widow"). SP 1430 would later be upgraded and renumbered (to SP 1523 in February 1980), eventually sold in December 1998 to Larry's Truck Electric in Niles, OH, who would scrap it. SP 3960 would also be rebuilt and renumbered (to 4419 in November 1976) and later sold through Chrome Crankshaft to Kerr-McGee Corporation (Trona CA), who would chop the nose and add it to the Trona Railway's roster as #2001.
