The pioneer Great Northern Railway class C1 Atlantic No 251 was already 25 years old when this photo was taken of it piloting an Ivatt GNR class D2 4-4-0 No 4321 seen taking water from Langley troughs (track pan) with a special from Lincolnshire to Kings Cross. GNR locos were renumbered by the addition of 3,000 to thir numbers after the grouping of Britain's railways in 1923, the GNR becoming part of the LNER.
