A pair of General Electric 125 ton, 3000 Volt 'Magna Motors' lead a 90 car train of copper ore from the Bingham Canyon Mine bound for the smelters at Garfield. Built in 1947, these boxy GEs made easy work of Kennecott's 16 mile CTC controlled ore haulage line, with a maximum grade of 1.35%. Each train would make an average of 18 round trips per day along the rolling foothills of the Oquirrh Mountains. Kennecott's venerable 'Magna Motors' would be replaced by EMD SD40-2's when the line was dieselized late in 1978.
