Remarks & Notes |
The climb to Shap we always find a challenging photographic location. All the classic steam photographs of the 50 and 60s portray engines working hard against the gradient on these wild and remote fells of Cumbria. Since the 1970 with the coming of overhead electrification and the building of the M6 motorway close to the railway it has lost much of its feeling of remoteness but we hope this shot captures the essence of engines working hard in this dramatic landscape with one of the best designed modern British steam loco the BR Standard 7 Pacific 70013 Oliver Cromwell with full power on passing Scout Green on her way to the summit with the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express |
