Pairs of Train Masters on the SF Peninsula were rare, but this was a "Big Game" Cal-Stanford football game special waiting for the game to end at Palo Alto. TMs 3029 and 3027 are in charge of 15 bi-level commute cars (!). Stanford won 29 to 28, which must have pleased Espee, since the university was founded by one of its "Big Four" founders, Leland Stanford.
Where once there was only one commuter carrier, Southern Pacific between San Jose and San Francisco, today there are three: Caltrain (former SP), Altamont Commuter Express, and the newest, SMART (Sonoma-Marin Rapid Transit).
