Remarks & Notes |
Narrow gauge Class K-37 498 leads a D&RGW westbound freight around the lower level of Big Horn (Colo.) loop while K-36 class 488 assists mid-train lifting the usual tonnage of asphalt, drilling mud and pipe up and over 10,015-ft. Cumbres Pass en route to the roads and and oil fields in northern New Mexico. The train will soon be on the upper level in foreground on June 1, 1966. The Big Horn landmark ponderosa pine at far right blew down a few years after this photo. You can still ride this route today on the steam-powered Cumbres & Toltec Scenic RR. |
