Remarks & Notes |
An unidentified en voyage livered BB22200 pushes the 17:01 Marseille St Charles to Nice Ville (17491) over Anthéor viaduct on 24th July 2012. This stunning location is a stiff 10 minute climb from the campsite in the valley floor. On September 1943 the viaduct attracted the attention of the Lancaster's of 617 (Dambusters) and 619 Squadrons in an attempt to sever the strategic route between southern France and Italy. Little damage was caused to the railway whilst one aircraft was lost but sadly two airmen were killed by defending gunfire |
