Brunswick, MD 6/30/2012 - The stars are beginning to show as a trio of trains idle in the "Mill Yard" on the west end of the Brunswick terminal. SD-70-ACe 4836 has command of eastbound Cumberland to Richmond manifest Q-401, while CSXT 777 and BNSF 5242 have coal trains. The trains have been tied here for more than 24 hours--the wiper blades on CSXT 4836 running and literally burning off--since a horrific storm called a "derecho" decemated the railroad and surrounding communities. The storm swept from Chicago to the eastern seaboard in just 18 hours, with straight-line winds up to 92 miles per hour, and was responsible for 22 deaths. The CSX mainlines in the east were tied up with downed trees and power lines for several days. 60 second exposure, ISO 200, f/6.3.
