| It had to happen sooner or later. The last run of the last "pure" unpatched and un renumbered D&RGW unit on the Union Pacific. Fittingly it was on the Dirt Train local out of Helper, Utah. My friend, Jim Belmont and I knew the end was drawing close for the 5371 and had made plans to meet and shoot it before it was too late. We did not know that we would be shooting the very last run for 5371. Here it is leading 3 UP stablemates between Wash and Mounds in eastern Utah. At Mounds it will leave the Green River Sub and enter the Sunnyside branch for the steep trip up to the East Carbon Development hazardous waste landfill. |
