Remarks & Notes |
ATSF 3450 is the first thing people see walking into the RailGiants museum and it is quite a sight! This engine was capable of going speeds in excess of 100mph while pulling passenger trains with its 79'' drivers. Built by Baldwin in 1927, it spent most of its years in the mid-western plains, then later on ran in the San Joaquin Valley until its retirement in 1953. It is the class engine and the only engine of its class remaining. It was donated to our R&LHS Chapter museum in October of 1955. Here it is seen sitting quietly during the L.A. County fair after we had closed up the museum for the night with the lights of the fair apparent on the clouds in the background. This was part of my night photos of the museum that I wanted to accomplish during this fair. For more information about the engine or museum go to RailGiants.org! |
