Remarks & Notes
BHP Billiton Iron Ore SD70ACe #4400 has just emerged from the finishing area after having its window protection added. The #4400 is the 101st SD70ACe for BHP and is the largest operator of SD70ACe locomotives in Australia. For efficiency BHP has become virtually an all-EMD SD70ACe railroad and has or will be retiring the GE AC6000CW fleet. Unique to this group of units is the new safety apparatus installed around the front and rear walkway. When the units are in operation in Australia, and when the step well plates are in place, the gates create a sturdy boundary for employees that may have to walk between the units. These units also features the EMD Tropical Roof, multiple levels of protection along the entire length of handrails, access gates for service personnel near the forward portion of the fuel tank, window protection that can be positioned up/ down to protect when in mid-train service from possible damage from the iron ore, large rear Sinclair type antenna, marker lights, dual air horns, and other additional screening to protect internal components from the extreme heat of the rugged terrain of Western Australia. These locomotives were proudly built and painted in Muncie, IN by Progress Rail Locomotive Assembly. Upon completion the units were tarped and transported south in a solid consist by Norfolk Southern. Models are available for pre-order from Overland Models, Inc.

An exclamation attributed to TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, it is this eponymous expression of which certain images convey man and machine versus nature . . .
