In the late 1980s, the Denver & Rio Grande Western offered 14 hour piggyback service between Denver and Salt Lake City for $299. Nicknamed the 'Railblazer', an extra short train #102 is pictured climbing the 1.4% westward main track just east of Springville, Utah. Historically, the 'Blazer' also introduced the two man road crew to the D&RGW and reduced the 570 mile mainline to just two crew districts (Denver to Grand Junction, and Grand Junction - Salt Lake City).
