Every once in a while, we stumble onto something good. Today was no different. After chasing a trio of brand new BNSF SD70ACe's, we decided to head west to find some things worth finding out into South Dakota. Not long after we passed an eastbound, we found out they were meeting an empty ethanol train. With a trio of NS SD70's, we couldn't pass it up.
With the tracks climbing out of the river valley, the rest of the town is high and dry, while the tracks do some catching up. If you look closely, you'll see the tracks are offset from the bridges above. This used to be Milwaukee Road's main line out to the pacific extension and was double tracked the entire way. BNSF now owns this stretch and calls it the Appleton Sub. Twin Cities & Western also has trackage rights on this section, as far as Milbank, SD.
