Car #8000 moves through the unfinished crossovers, part of the construction of the Franklin Ave. loop track on Newark's #7 Subway. Within a month, car #8000 will be relegated to the scrap heap, as PSCT has cut a deal with the Twin Cities Rapid Transit to purchase 30 PCC cars, made surplus by the TCRT conversion to rubber-tired vehicles, for the sum of $350,000. Unlike the #8000 and others in the December 1953 fleet, the PCC's were single ended, thus the need for the crossover and loop at the end of the line. Today this is known as Branch Brook Park, and like in December 1953, the line remains the only subway in Newark's public transit system. The PCC's were retired in 2001, replaced by "LRV's".
