Rio Grande's Railblazer piggyback train #102 glides east through Springville on its 14 hour overnight journey to Denver. The 102 is on the CTC equipped westward main track, which diverges from the CTC equipped eastward at this point, taking a slightly steeper (1.14% vs 0.8%) gradient along the Mapleton Bench to the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon. The westward track is a mile shorter than the eastward, making this routing a time saver for a well powered train. At left, the 32 mile Tintic Branch veers away from the eastward at this same point. Now you know far more than you ever wanted to about the Rio Grande in Springville.
