The westbound lanes of the Interstate 10 witnessed an unusual commuter on Sunday, April 17th when restored steam locomotive AT&SF 3751 returned home from a weekend event in San Bernardino. Unusual in this photo is also the fact that a carpool lane doubles as a photo line. Private cars Pony Express, Ocean View, Silver Splendor, Overland Trail, originally to be Amber Trail that was substituted for an Amfleet Car because of Bad Order AC. National Forum, Tioga Pass were also part of this interesting line up.
Since 1946, New Avenue in San Gabriel has undergone some major changes. What was once Pacific Electric Railway double track heading east from Los Angeles through a mostly rural San Gabriel Valley, Interstate 10 has evolved into one of the busiest freeways in Southern California. Santa Fe steam locomotive 3751 is out on a rare run, heading back to Los Angeles from San Bernardino as it travels over the New Avenue underpass.
