Remarks & Notes |
It was 9:00 AM at Gaynor Saturday morning when this empty jet train came down the mountain. This location hosts an informal railfan trackside campground smack-dab in the middle of the Cascade Mountains where the Great Northern relocated a stretch of line and built the present majestic trestle in 1948. One can hear the growl of trains working uphill from Merritt, about four miles away or with the downhill trains you'll hear a faint rumble and dynamic whine in the distance as they coast down from East Portal. That's Rock Mountain with the snow cap. |
