A pair of classic EMD SW9s enjoy a little down time parked in Union Pacific's Riverdale Yard in Ogden. The UP 1844 was built by EMD for the UP in April 1953, and was rebuilt by UP as SW10 No. 1203 in March 1980. The UP 1864 was built new by EMD for the UP in Nov. 1953, and was rebuilt by UP as SW10 No. 1217 in March 1981. Of interest in this view is the Riverdale yard tower, built on the pilings of a steam era water tower.
Oh the stories these special buildings could tell. Originally the brains of the rails they monitored, working to insure effecient rail service for our nation! A tribute!
