Work Train 95Q at County Line Road location of new two mile sliding .
PASSING SIDING WILL INCREASE FREIGHT TRAIN CAPACITY ON THE NORTH CAROLINA RAILROAD
Construction is underway on a new passing siding on the North Carolina Railroad near the
Lenoir-Wayne County line that will increase rail capacity on the eastern portion of the rail corridor
to serve freight customers and military installations.
$4 million project funded by the NCRR. Contractors and Norfolk Southern will construct the
siding. Norfolk Southern will provide ongoing track maintenance. The two-mile long siding is the first lengthy passing track to be built along the 114-mile stretch of rail corridor
between Selma and Morehead City. This was the Atlantic and East Carolina Railway Company from 1938 to 1958 |
