Remarks & Notes |
The Skyline coal loadout in Utah's Carbon County is arguably one of the most scenic locations where coal is loaded into rail cars. Rio Grande train 735 is pictured loading the third of 84 Intermountain Power Project coal empties in Eccles Canyon on Sept. 16, 1989. Coastal States Energy Company opened the underground Skyline mine and loading facility in the early 1980s. The mine has opened and closed several times in the past 30 years due to the fluctuating price of coal and market demand. |
