Remarks & Notes |
#5034 gets readied for service on the Sandusky coal line at the St. Clair Ave. roundhouse. Note the extender rails and tender jutting out at the right. The buildings of the PRR 20th St. Shops rise above, able to perform all class repairs on steam engines. No matter, it was cheaper to bring these Santa Fe engines in for the lake season than do class repairs on the fleet of stored steam unseen behind these buildings. According to ColumbusRailroads.com, the next year PRR brought in 6 unneeded J's from the east to serve during the lake shipping season. |
