A local train CSX H793 passes a classic C&O signal bridge at Longley just north of Fostoria, Ohio. The CSX Pemberville Subdivision is one of the few railroads in the east that still has a functioning railroad pole line, where the signaling and power circuits are still in use, and the telegraph and telephone circuits long abandoned.
Photos showing the railroad pole lines. The pole line used four basic electrical circuits - telegraph, telephone, signaling, and power. Modern technologies of fiber optics, microwave, radio, satellite, and computers have been replacing the pole lines.
