Remarks & Notes
Rio Grande SD40T-2 No. 5348 is serviced and ready to earn its keep at Roper Yard in South Salt Lake. This EMD 'tunnel motor' was built new for the D&RGW in Oct. 1974. By June of '93, it had been modified at Southern Pacific's Burnham shops in Denver with a roof mounded warning beacon, pilot mounted ditch lights, new number boards, and a relocated train horn. Sadly, the 5348's service life was cut short when it was destroyed in a wreck at Pando, Colorado on Nov. 22, 1994.
