Before getting to the steep grade between Montandon and Potrerillos, trains often make a cooling stop in the old Montandon station. Even if the steep 3.9% is still ahead, the previous section is not flat at all and the locomotives had to work hard to get to this place with their copper ore loaded train. Imagine how it was here during the steam era...
Codelco owned and Ferronor leased GR12U #93 and a sister unit will shortly leave Montandon, turn in a open 180° curve and head then up to Montandon - the line is visible in the counterhead slope. |
