On the first day of 1974, Amtrak San Diegan #771 (San Diego CA to Los Angeles CA) departs Fullerton. Amtrak SDP40F 511 is the newest thing in this photograph, having been built by EMD in 1973. The combine behind it is an old Chicago Burlington & Quincy car, Santa Fe caboose 1567 is was a relic even by this date, and the wooden box car on the right, ATSF 128016, was even older! Interestingly, the next time I photographed Amtrak 511 was on the last day of 1974!
