Remarks & Notes |
Across the island of Newfoundland many remnants of the intriguing 42in gauge railroad can be found. The main line has become the T'railway provincial park a multi use trail stretching all the way from Port-aux Basques to St. John's. Several small museums with rail equipment are spread around the provence. The display at Avondale was in the process of getting a needed paint job this past July. The oddly proportioned but interesting locomotive is a 1200hp EMD product that was built specifically for the Newfoundland Railway. Recently there have been several excellent photographs posted on RP of this locomotive class that were exported to South America and are still in service. The building in the background behind the caboose is the oldest surviving railway station in Newfoundland being originally built as a telegraph office in 1870 or 1880. |
