Remarks & Notes |
The name of the cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 2/3 # 6 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke is "Weisshorn", and so is the name of the wonderful white pyramid in the background, 4506 meter (13734 feet) high and about 69 kilometer away. The 0-4-2 tank engine was built in 1902 by SLM Winterthur for the Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (VZ) and is now (rather seldom) running for the DFB since 1989 (she was the first steamlocomotive of the DFB). Here she is pulling the first steam train of the day from Oberwald (10.20 AM) over the Furka Pass to Realp, on a grade of 9.0 % near Km 42.5 above Oberwald. |
