It's a cool, disgusting, cloudy day in north Georgia, but the railroads are still grinding away, as always. Here is CSX local train A756 on the Gainesville Midland Subdivision returning to Pendergrass. Large power is used on this line because of excessive grades and unlevel track, even though trains can be quite short. The original Gainesville, Jefferson, and Southern Railroad here was built directly on top of part of the Eastern Continental Divide in 1883, which explains its sawtooth route between Gainesville and Athens.
