The third diesel powered streamliner in North America was built jointly by the Budd Company and Electro-Motive Corporation for the Maine Central and Boston and Maine Railroads. Pictured here on a dreary day in Glen, NH, it was delivered in 1935 and the train set had a successful career in New England until its retirement in 1957. For the next 40 years the Yankee was on display at the Edaville Railroad in Carver, Massachusetts. When Edaville shut down, the train set was bought by a NH theme park owner, the late Bob Morrell. After sitting in Glen for several years, it was again moved to the shops of the Claremont and Concord Railroad where some restoration work was done. I think the State of NH owns it now and it currently resides in a makeshift quonset hut at the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln mostly out of view. I don’t know any details as to what is currently happening and unfortunately the restoration web sight hasn't changed or said much in the last several years. Whatever is happening with it, I hope someday to be able to hear what a Winton 201-A sounds like, or at least see the train set moving on rails.
